Community Organisation Award: Disability
The SPACE Group Manchester has been running for 18 months, and in that short amount of time have reached thousands of families throughout Manchester. The group is made up of parent volunteers, all who have disabled children themselves. At SPACE Group they promise a non-judgemental environment, where parents and carers of children with SEND feel empowered and valued. For all children and young people to be heard and understood, and to see the child before the disability. The Group aim to try and combat social isolation and deprivation by providing a warm, safe environment including food and/or refreshments and most importantly an inclusive setting that is accessible for all of the household. The SPACE Group provide peer to peer support, fully inclusive family events, training, workshops, help with filling in referrals and/or benefit forms, supporting schools and much more.
