Community Organisation Award: Age
With youth clubs closing and local children having few options in Preston Kidz4Kidz was set up in 2001 by a mother and teacher to offer a place for young people to perform & socialise. In the past 21 years over 50 volunteers and over 1000 cast members have volunteered their time to produce 62 shows. This extraordinary not-for-profit community group has given thousands to various charities and bought much needed equipment for children with disabilities, hence the name ‘Kidz (doing something) 4 Kidz’. Many of the teenagers who help out have been recognised for their commitment, with their input at the organisation being noted on CVs and admired by prospective universities and employers. Kidz4Kidz currently has an age range of 4 to 72 helping by performing in shows, fundraising, admin, costumes etc. All involved recognise it as place to build confidence, have fun, and help others.
